What's up Drummer Bitches! I recently caught up with The Objex' drummer, Joe Perv for a Drummerbitch interview, here's what the man had to say...
DB: So Joe, I see you're a ludwig man. Have you always played ludwigs and if not, why the switch?
JP: No, I've played em all. My current Ludwig set just had that vintage vibe I was after. The chrome Luddies were a set that I wanted when I was 15 & I finally figured out a way to get em after all these years - EBay is the way! The new Pearls are on the way but I'm gonna keep the Luddies too.
DB: How do you go about hunting down all those hard to find parts?
JP: Like I said, EBay is the way. I pieced together the whole set.
DB: What's been happening lately with your current band, the Objex? Since you got your new bass player it seems like you guys have been out touring a lot.
JP: Yeah we've been busy, busy. Did a 2 week tour of the UK in June/July & we just got back from a 16 day, 15 show tour of the NW. Just out spreading the gospel.
DB: Tell me about your band, the Pervz.
JP: The Pervz was a rockin 3 piece punk band that I put together here in Vegas. We achieved some moderate success & almost got a deal but the boys panicked & decided to move.
DB: What's it like living in Las Vegas? What's the punk rock scene like there?
JP: It's hot & it's crazy. 24 hour town, no last call ever. The punk scene has always been kind of underground but relatively
strong. The music scene is pretty diverse here.
DB: Any other musicians in the perv family?
JP: I've got an uncle, 'Jimmy Guitar Smith' who allegedly taught Jackson Browne how to play the guitar back in the 60's. I met him once when I was 3 (my uncle, not Jackson Browne) & recently I discovered him in Music Connection Magazine. I called & spoke with him on the phone, it was a trip!
DB: When and how did you know you were going to become a professional drummer?
JP: When I was about 12, I saw a red sparkle drum set in my buddy's basement & a bell went off in my head (no pun intended). From there it was KISS cover bands & I'm still bangin' away.
DB: Any influences you want to acknowledge?
JP: Gene Krupa (the main man), Buddy of course, John Bonham, Keith Moon, Stewart Copeland & recently Dusty Watson.
DB: What works best for you pets or plants?
JP: Pets but I've got a pretty good green thumb too.
DB: Any fetishes or habits you want to share with us?
JP: Come on I am Joe Perv - do you really wanna know the answer to that question?
DB: Finally, what's the next step for you and the Objex and where can people check out your rockin band and get some cool merch?
JP: In the immediate future, it's working on our next album, trying to recruit a real producer. Mr. Rubin, if you're not busy . . .
