So
I have totally been in love with this band for years
and years. Fabulous Disaster has rocked the world with
their all chick, kick ass, punk rock band and I am so
lucky to have gotten to meet and interview their drummer
Sally....
Drummer Bitch: Tell us a little bit
about the line up in your band and when you guys hooked
up and formed Fabulous Disaster:
Sally: We started FabD in 1998 as a
"side project" because 3 of us were in a band
called Piston and Mr Nancy, a good friend of ours wanted
to join Piston. Once we started jamming and writing
together, we quit Piston and made Fabulous Disaster
our one and only. A few years back, Laura Litter left
and then Mr. Nancy. Lynda moved from guitar to lead
vocals and Squeaky joined us on guitar. We went through
a couple of bass players until last year when we found
Lizzie and she moved from NYC to join the band.
Drummer Bitch: Having seen you guys
at least a half dozen times in California and Germany,
I know you ladies have played EVERYWHERE!!! What is
one of your favorite cities to play in?
Sally: Oh man, that's tough. . . it's
easier to say the places that sucked - hah! But in the
U.S. we do really well in the midwest and one of my
most memorable towns is Green Bay, WI - crazy kids!
In Europe our new favorite place is Helsinki, Finland
because not a lot of bands make it up there and everyone
just comes out in full force and they really crave the
live punk rock. It was our first time anywhere near
there and we sold the place out - over 400 people.
Drummer Bitch: Being an all female
punk band, would you say its been tough fitting in with
a male dominating scene?
Sally: Not so much. It's a funny thing
because over the years we've noticed that when we get
to a club, everyone (all the staff and other bands)
completely ignore us. Then the minute they see us play
live and kick soooo much ass, they are all over us.
So basically we just have to prove ourselves every damn
night, where guy bands don't have to do that. But it's
cool - I just make them all buy me drinks after the
show - hah!!
Drummer Bitch: Have you been in any
other bands than Fab D, if so which ones?
Sally: Oh hell yes. I've been playing
in bands since I was 12, but none that anyone would
know about. I was in a pretty established band in San
Antonio, TX called "Pirates of Destiny" and
a really famous cult band here in SF called "White
Trash Debutantes".
Drummer Bitch: I heard you have toured
with bands like the Dickies, NOFX, Mad Caddies, etc.
Are there any bands that you ladies especially like
to tour with or maybe the opposite?
Sally: We love love love touring with
all the Fat Wreck Chord bands - such great guys. We
absolutely adore touring with the Real McKenzies - they
are our brothers and totally take care of us and keep
us completely intoxicated the entire tour. We shared
a tour bus with them in Europe one year and it was so
much fun.
Drummer Bitch: Being from the bay myself
I really dig the music scene in SF. What are some of
your favorite local bands?
Sally: Yeah, the scene here has picked
up. I love the Fleshies and Von Iva of course. Another
cool one is Sputterdoll.
Drummer Bitch: What does Fab D have
in store for the rest of 2006? Any tours? New albums?
Sally: YES!! We have 17 new songs ready
to go and are recording this August, which puts the
album at like a late 2006 release. We've just been playing
a lot of West Coast shows, but hopefully a tour will
follow the release of the new record.
And finally...
Drummer Bitch: Where can we get ahold
of some Fab D cd's and swag?
Sally: Why yes. . . through our website.
. . www.fabulous-disaster.com
where anyone can get our CDs and we have a link to the
company that does our t-shirts and hoodies :). ROCK
ON!!!!
